My Approach to Acupuncture

I am a qualified Acupuncturist based in Oxford, practising at both Summertown Clinic and the Thame Therapy Clinic. My approach integrates the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine with modern therapeutic understanding.

I focus primarily on palpation, combined sometimes with pulse and tongue diagnosis to assess and create personalised treatment plans for each patient. This comprehensive approach ensures that treatments are tailored to your specific needs.

Having worked and trained in Massage Therapy for several years, I offer a unique approach, integrating both Acupuncture and Massage within treatment. Utilising Myofascial release, Trigger Point Therapy, Neuromuscular Therapy, as well as Sports and traditional Massage, I combine multiple approaches to find the best solution for the patient. From Traditional Chinese Medicine, I use Acupuncture, Cupping, Moxa and Guasha, as well as Qi Qong. My unique position is that I am able to use both approaches to help people back to a place of health. I have also begun to practice a new, revolutionary form of Acupuncture called Neoclassical Acupuncture. It is a highly effective treatment method. As a result of this method, some sessions will require only 1 needle to effect change. For more information, see Neoclassical Acupuncture.

I also am interested in emotional trauma and mental health, and how this links to the body. Evidence is increasingly showing that emotional trauma is also very physical, and not just of a mental or emotional nature, for example with chronic pain. I am particularly interested in how using Massage and Acupuncture, one can help people on their journey of working through their trauma. For more information about how trauma affects our physical being, Peter Levines ‘Waking the Tiger’, as well as ‘The Body Keeps the Score’ by Bessel Van Kolk are interesting books on the subject.

I studied Massage Therapy at the Arizona School of Integrative Studies, learning Sports Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Swedish, Connective Tissue Massage, basic elements of Cranial Sacral, Polarity Therapy, and some of the Asian modalities. I have extensive experience in Massage Therapy and Trigger Point Therapy, having treated many patients successfully in the Oxford area within the last 10 years. I apply this invaluable experience within my sessions, particularly regarding muscular-skeletal complaints.
